Mahatma Ramalingam and his revelationsRamalingam, called also Ramalinga or Vallalar, was born in Marudur (next to Chidambaram, in South India), on Sunday, October 5, 1823. At the age of only five months, his parents carried him in pilgrimage to the temple of Nataraja in Chidambaram. His father died a month later. Moving their residence to Madras, the older brother, Sabapathi assumed the responsibilities of family head. When Ramalinga was five years old, with a prodigious facility he learned to read under the supervision of Sabapathi's teacher. Instead of attending school, he passed the time reciting in ecstasy poems written by himself in the temple of Kanthakottam (Madras). Sabapathi reproached him for this attitude, but seeing that it didn't give any result, he ordered his wife Pappammal never more to admit him in their house to feed. Breaking this order, she fed Ramalinga secretly when he was hungry because she considered him as if he was her own brother.Ramalinga was a model of uprightness and moderation. Physically, he had a sharp nose and large, serene eyes whose look emitted divine brilliancy. He undertook long fasts, eating frugally once every two or three days. He had extraordinary capacities and was accustomed to disappear for some days and nobody was able to discover his whereabouts. He was kind, simple and sincere. He died on January 30th, 1874.It is a real pleasure for me to present this treatise on Mahatma Ramalingam and his revelations to you. Thank you, Dr.Shuddhananda Bharati for having transmitted Mahatma Ramalingam and his revelations to us. The first edition of this book is dated 1936.Editions ASSA, Christian Piaget

Editions ASSA, Christian Piaget

Experiences of a Pilgrim Soul Experiences of a Pilgrim Soul has been out of print for the past forty four years. It is an invaluable work that throws a flood of light upon the path of perfection, sainthood and eternal bliss. I take the privilege of reprinting this marvellous and precious book for the memory of the Master and author Kavi Yogi Maharishi Dr.Shuddhananda Bharati, which is a must and need for the new generation as well for the spiritual seekers. The book was translated by the author himself from the original Tamil work titled Atma Sodhanai. It is the treasure of a life lived from within, in tune with God in the soul. Every day of his embodied existence has been an experiment on himself. This autobiography in the third person is a record of those experiments and their results. He has lived with great souls of the age. We read in this book interesting accounts of 65 great souls. This book is the fulfilment of the author's aspiration. It took ten years for the Kavi Yogi to finish this autobiography full of inner experiences. This is a record of a saint's life which is verily the record of man's ascent to divinity. To reveal the inner process of this ascent is to put into the hands of suffering mankind the most precious life-giving secrets of a successful inner struggle and blissful attainment. I hope this autobiography may guide the spiritual seekers to attain divine consciousness and bliss! Experiences of a Pilgrim Soul is dedicated to all spiritual seekers and all nations.Editions ASSA, Christian Piaget

The Yoga MasterDr. Shuddhananda Bharati, the reputed author of many valuable books in varied languages, with his wide knowledge and travel experiences, with his mastery over several languages like Tamil, English, Sanskrit, Telugu, Hindi, French, etc., with his delving into the depths of Yogic silence and light and Divine inspiration, has brought out this great volume The Yoga Master.Dr. Shuddhananda Bharati wrote about The Yoga Master: To pass from the external to a direct and intimate inner consciousness, to widen consciousness out of the limits of the ego and the body, to heighten it by an inner will and aspiration and opening to the Light till it passes in its ascent beyond the mind, to bring down a descent of the Supramental Divine through self-giving and surrender with a consequent transformation of the mind, life and the body - this is the integral way of Truth. It is this that we call the Truth here and aim at in our Yoga.It is a real pleasure for me to present this book The Yoga Master to you. Thank you, Dr. Shuddhananda Bharati for having transmitted The Yoga Master to us. The first edition of this book The Yoga of Sri Aurobindo is dated on October 11, 1968. A Study, A great poet is no mere writer of verses. He is a creator of life and superlife and a revealer of the ideal gleaming through the real, of the Divine shining through Nature and man. He appears to be a dreamer of dreams, but in reality, he is a denizen of a world which is more real and bright and joyous than ours. He is a priest to us all, of the wonder and bloom of the world. He is an explosive force who often breaks up the bad old world to build a brave new world. In a famous lyric Arthur O'Shanghnessy says:We are music makersAnd the dreamers of the dreams,Wandering by lone sea-breakersAnd sitting by desolate streams;World-losers and world-forsakersOn whom the pale moon gleams; And yet we are the movers and shakersOf the world for ever, it seems. It is thus true that poets, while seeming to be gazing away from the real towards the ideal, are really helping to release the ideal from within the real and to build the Kingdom of God upon the common earth. As Shelley says in a famous passage in The Defence of Poetry:Poetry is indeed something divine. It is at once the centre and circumference of knowledge. It is at the same time the root and blossom of all other systems of thought.Poetry is the record of the best and the happiest moments of the happiest and best minds. Poetry reanimates the sleeping, the cold, the buried image of the past. Poetry thus makes immortal all that is best and most beautiful in the world.Poets are the hierophants of an unapprehended ins-piration; the mirrors of the gigantic shadows which futurity casts upon the present. Poets are the unacknowledged legislators of the world.Dr.Shuddhananda Bharati says in equally felicitous terms: Poets are harbingers of the New Dawn, Koils of Renaissance, awakeners of new life in mankind and eye-openers of humanity. Poets are the sculptors of civilisation.True poetry is a mantra of the Real, dynamic song-thrill of Soul-Bliss. It is an immortal blossom of Divine communion which breathes with the aroma of cosmic beauty and Nature's ecstasy. The true poet is poetry itself. He is the muse of Nature and the messenger of God in her heart. The poet's vision is far above the eyesight and the mind's vision. It is the soul's vision of the ensouled Divine. It gushes out of the inner fountain of bliss and flows into an ecstasy of beauty, emotion and rhythmic expression. Swamiji says further in his Seer-Poet:Poetry is the art of arts. The ear enjoys music, the eye painting and dancing. But something deeper is required to enjoy real poetry. The head, the heart and the soul must go together to live within oneself what the poet has embodied in his verse. Poetry is not an array of words set to a metrical beat. Poetry is a great formative power. It reveals the One in Man, Nature, and the universe of beings. The real poet is a messenger of truth and a mediator between life and the Spirit. The Divine MasterAs the author Dr.Shuddhananda Bharati say: Divine Masters like Sri Aurobindo descend to Earth but once in several centuries. They come with the Divine Force to lift Man to his innate godhood, to establish the spiritual law of existence, to free the Divine in Man from the Asuric tyranny of the lower vital egoism. The birth of such a god-man is not an ordinary birth in ignorance. It is a soul-birth. It is the dual phenomenon of divinity and humanity.Calm, majestic, radiant, self-fixed, enthroned upon dynamic peace, the personality of Sri Aurobindo compels our adherence and adoration. Every aspect of his life shows the Superman in him.Sri Aurobindo is a force, a presence, a manifestation. In this Iron Age of doubt and scepticism, dominated by the dollar and dagger of merciless brute forces, the advent of such a Master presages a new dawn, a new hope for humanity. Fixed in the tranquillity of a Flame-Trance, this Yogin of yogins sheds around his feet the blessings of a comforting peace and Truth-light.It is a real pleasure for me to present this treatise on Sri Aurobindo, the Divine Master to you. It was written in Madras in the south of India. Thank you, Dr.Shuddhananda Bharati for having transmitted Sri Aurobindo, the Divine Master to us, it is written with so much love. The first edition of this book is dated on September 20, 1986.Editions ASSA, Christian Piaget

PrefaceLetters of Kaviyogi is a book which is an inspiration to any reader. This giant of a man was the author of the epic Bharata Shakti but remained a humble seeker after truth and God's grace. During his lifetime, Kaviyogi wrote many letters to his family, fellow poets, fighters for Indian independence and other great thinkers he met during his travels. In these letters he sets out his philosophy and beliefs, describing the struggles he had to overcome in order to live according to his principles. He offers many wise words of guidance on important matters; including the correct education of young men and women, and the need for justice and fairness in society. We cannot fail to be touched by the insights he offers and his generosity in sharing his thoughts with us.Daye CraddockEditor's NotesA warm thank you to Daye Craddock for her help in careful editing of this book. It is a real pleasure for me to present Letters of Kavi, Volume 1 to you. Thank you, Dr. Shuddhananda Bharati for having transmitted Letters of Kavi, Volume 1 to us.

ForewordTo my friend, to my guide, to the mahatma of my heart, to the visionary of a united world living in peace and harmony in the earthly paradise that God has given us.Life and destiny is like an iceberg; most of us is hidden, and for some, this is the start of the long path of questioning... For souls that are searching, the time then comes when the seeker finds what is being sought: the precursor, the one that has opened the path, cleared it out and illuminated the way. Thus in the deepest part of our Selves, at the centre of our soul, Joythi, the Divine Light is revealed and works on meeting all those who seek it.Kavi Yogi Maharshi Shuddhananda Bharati was a scholar, linguist, scientist, seer poet, saint and the sage of the Cosmic Age. He was ever agile and active, writing, singing, doing good and observed silence for 30 continuous years. He was a universalist, who was not bound to caste, religion, colour and race or geographic bounds. He was an apostle of Sama Yoga, which seeks for a synthesis of science and yoga, West and East, the actual and the ideal in life.Dr. Shuddhananda Bharati is the author of creative and literary works with diverse writing styles: epic and lyric writings, melodramas, operas, comedies, pastoral theologies, novels, short stories, biographies, notes on famous works, essays.Bharata Shakti Kavi Malayam is his magnum opus.Editions ASSA, Christianananda Bharati

Editor's NotesWilliam Blake was a mystic artist, who lived in an imaginary dreamland. The dream of art was his life and breath. People of his time called him crazy. Only later did the world know him as an artist genius, one who lived for art, and celebrated him. Today's world celebrates his epic poems and paintings. There is much new English research on these. This mystic artist's life and words will continue to live in our literature. Kavi Yogi Dr. Shuddhananda Bharati in this book describes the history, poems and art of William Blake. This book clearly describes how a real artist would be.Let this artistic book of the divine karpaga tree flourish in the grove of renaissance!Editions ASSA, Christian Piaget

Editions ASSA, Christian Piaget

Author's NotesAll the 324 songs contained in this book give voice to my experience of life. I, who lived my life depending solely on the almighty Supreme Soul for support, encountered many obstacles and ordeals in my life. On the stage of this world, I have never known the joys of romantic love. I sought only the joy of knowing and uniting with God. He, who remained the beloved thief who had robbed my heart, subjected me to terrible worldly hardships. Who stood by me whenever I was surrounded by innumerable misfortunes such as egoistic tussles, jealousy, backbiting, deceit, divisive scheming, unjust slander and disappointments? Only the pure energy that is God was my life saviour. During those difficult times, I strung garlands of songs as an ode to the Supreme Soul who is the Master of my life. These songs are countless in number. Out of these, I have selected the ones most pleasing to me and those which I thought the world would like for inclusion in this book. From the songs piled in high heaps, I selected many for publication by prolonged filtering (and destroyed many more by tearing them up) in order to provide succour to other suffering souls like me.Practices to infuse divinity in one's life, ways to overcome obstacles hampering one's life, songs to promote unity in this world and to lead a life devoid of illusory mental conflicts and egoistic constrictions, ways to attain God with the help of love and utterances of enlightened people to guide us on the path towards God are all resonant in the music of life.I practised austerity in my personal life to buy paper required for publishing this book. I undertook fasting at night and on special days and saved money to present this book to all people I consider my own. Each song encompasses within itself the experiences of life. By understanding, singing and reflecting on the songs, these experiences will come to light. No matter how terrifying the ordeals which come one's way, if one goes forward with truth and trusting solely in the Supreme Soul who is our conscience keeper, the calamity will be averted and peace and happiness will prevail. This is my personal experience of life. May everyone know, understand, feel love, experience divine grace, sing, dance, feel, give and rise!Dr. Shuddhanandha Bharati

The Silent SplendourAvatar Meher BabaThe Yogi said, The light of knowledge must burn in the lamp of love. The heart must lead the brain. The spirit must breathe in the matter. The Yogi must handle science for the peace and harmony of the universe. East and West must unite. Under the vast canopy of heaven, humanity must live as one spiritual communion of loving souls conscious of One God in the hearts of the beings. Love of God must merge with the love towards humanity.
